Calling any AS level music students (or anyone who can help):

One of the briefs is to compose a piece of music with theme and variations, but utilising some kind of code within it.

Can anyone offer some tips to help, apart from morse code?

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

I do BTEC National Music... Your assignments sound A LOT harder. We have ones like, "Have eight rehearsals of a song, original or cover, perform this song at the end of eight weeks to the rest of the class and write rehearsal diaries up for all of the rehearsals. So glad I picked the BTEC.

What about something serialist?

Music that comes in parts? Or kills people?

Hand in a blank CD and tell them it's encrypted...

I'm at Wilberforce College, in Hull. Probably not heard of it. We have to do that exact same essay. I didn't know whether or not to pick it though because I've not been playing guitar long. So imagine my dread when I hear our next assignment is a solo piece. Fan-****ing-tastic. xD

Code, as in like a cipher, such as writing text into music (spelling a sentence with the notated notes). Essentially hiding something within the music.

I liked the encrypted silent cd idea

You could use the musical notation to spell F Ab. Then if you could find a way to play flat notes upside-down it would spell FAp.

Don't you have a music teacher who can tell you this?

True, but I was trying to get more information/ideas.

Basically, my poor post writing skills fail me :$

I finished that course last year (well, this year), our final written assignment was a 3000 word essay on an era of music of your choice, i done half of it just the night before deadline day, i worked solid through the night to get it done, it got done but it didn't print out so i explained to the lecturer and he said i can hand it in the next time i saw him.

Has any of you heard of total serialism? Where you not only have the 12 notes, but also 12 note lengths and twelve dynamics that you're not allowed to repeat until you've used them all. It's crazy!
