It scares me shitless.

I have NO idea what I want to do. NO F*CKING IDEA.
I love music, that's al I can really say.
Sure I wanna play in a band, not necesarily be a f*ckin rich man, but it's the only thing I have a passion for.
I'm good at English. Find it easy, but that doesn't make me feel any better.
I'm probably gonna do English Literature at Birmingham Uni. But for what? Sure, I'd love to go into music journalism, but what are the chances of that happening?

MONEY
That's the big problem. I have a conservative Dad that's obssessed with the RAF cos it's all he's ever known. Of course he wants me to join
But I don't want that. F*ck that shit, I don't want to be in his position in 30 years time.
So I'd rather stay 17 forever I guess.

Anyone else feel the same. Complete lack of direction?

Nope, I'm just taking it step by step. No point in worrying about something that doesn't even exist yet.

Nah, I like to take things as they come. Personally I'm going for my degree course (Mechanical Engineering) because I'm interested in the subject, and I'm giving no thought whatsoever to anything beyond such as a career. It's more fun that way.

Yeah I guess.
But I go to a fairly posh school courtsey of the RAF, so it's worrying when I see everyne planning to be doctorz/lawyers/take over daddys business.

Except for Birmingham uni, we're practically the same person.

Oh, except it doesn't scare me, I find the unpredictability kinda interesting. And I figure I'll work it out along the way. Whatever happens happens.
I play by my own rules. And I have one rule; There are no rules... but if there are, they're there to be broken. Even this one.

Confused? Good.

I know roughly what I'm doing- finishing my degree, then a teaching certificate, before going into teaching.

I'm also planning on maybe doing music qualifications as well at some point, something to do with drums.

To the TC, I'm actually in a similar situation. Good at english and passionate about music, at the moment I'm planning on doing music, but god only knows. it all really hinges on whether I can launch my band to any situation where I make money.

it might be easy to say coming from me, but if you love music, become a musician. After all, you only live once so if you don't do it now, it will NEVER happen, that is a fact. to quote a session musician who I know and who knows more about this than me:

"You'll either become a musician with no money, or a lawyer with an expensive guitar who wishes he was a musician."
"I hope I die before I get old"-Words of Pete Townsend, 1945-

"I hope I die before I turn into Pete Townsend"-Words of Kurt Cobain, 1967-1994

Funny old world eh.

Im just scared of dying, and leaving behind everyone I've met (that I haven't hated) once death comes.
#17
well, ive acted like im 19-21 for about 8 years now, started when i was 16, im 24 now and still havnt progressed much. ive done almost all my college however, but i did a harder degree and the last few classes are killing me. i wana play in a band for the next portion of my life, which we are doing ok at. just need to get paid more. but my roomate just f*cked me out of $500 and i cant make rent next month as it stands, im trying to sell some of my instruments and get my head strait so im toying with the idea of flying across the country and getting a job at a ski resort or in a ski town(vail, aspen) and trying to live there for 4-5 months to get my head strait.

you dont wana be 24 and be lost. at 19 its fun, at 21 you have an excuse, at 24 you start feeling like you f*cked up.

oh, im an economics major who wants to goto law school, do contract law to make enough money to open my own bar
#18
Well, I know exactly what I want to do.........and I'm failing at it miserably.

Is that any better? It might actually be worse.

Edit: I'm 22 if that makes any difference.

Ive got a job im decent at and which pays well, no girlfriend, very little social life and absolutely no direction. I like to drift through life and take whatever options present themselves to me. If i were to become a father at this age, i would enjoy it. If i were to become a teacher in my craft and end up well respected, id like it. If i end up in a puddle of my own vomit, dying at the age of 25, im not going to be very disappointed.

I have a certain plan, being do GCSEs well, then A Levels and get to university to read History. After that I hope to become a journalist, hopefully a music or film journalist. Or, I become a metal overlord. Also, find a hot intelligent redhead girl who likes metal, and hump away.

Wow, you're like me one year back, except you're older.

I was like that, good at english, passionate about music.
I got turned down at college to take music even though i got an a in gcse
They said i'd need to be able to read music for music and music tech.
So i decided i'd pursue my ambition of being a computer programmer, i figured as long as im always making music and playing it with a band i'm happy.

I have a plan, I'm a sophomore in college..so I think it's a good thing that I know what I want to do.
Her friends are gazing on her,
And on her gaudy bier,
And weep!-oh! to dishonor
Dead beauty with a tear!
They loved her for her wealth-
And they hated her for her pride-
But she grew in feeble health,
And they love her-that she died.

I'm in a management program but I really don't want to be a manager or something along those lines. I'll try and settle as an accountant.

I know I want to be a teacher, but I haven't decided if I want to teach school or something else.

Essentially, knowledge and experience are the two things no one can ever take away from you (aside from dire situations). Since experience is garnered on one's own, I could help people find knowledge. I don't want to teach people facts, I want to make people want to learn them.

I kinda know whats going on. im in college majoring in audio production, in a band. i dont really care what happens, i just want to keep doing stuff related to audio/music and that allows me to eat/stay somewhere o.k. if thats running sound or being an audio guy for films, messing with commercials, working in a studio, or making my own albums, i dont really care. my advice to you would be further your education in something, you won't regret it. you have to figure out how you feel about the importance of money compared to doing what you want to do, and then come up with something. america is so geared towards your job is your life, its so ****ing pathetic what weve become.

The future is all I have hope for, seeing as how I've been trapped in my home for weeks with no job, a car that's probably going to get repossessed, and no friends close enough to hang out with. All I have is a recording of a song that's hopefully going to get mastered this week, and once that happens I'm going to do something. I don't care if I end up leaving home on a bike with CDs of it to hand out, I'm doing something with it.

Music is my future, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I'll break in one day.
We're only strays.

On a serious note, does that future not appeal to you (I noticed the smiley turning sad)? If so, don't do it. You're not obligated to live a "standard" life.

Add spelling to that list and you may have a future. Or convince the rest of the world you're doing it right and get us to change. Now there's a big ambition for you.

I have ideas.

1. Go to Grayson county community college for a year, switch to Collin county community college for a year, then go to The Guildhall at SMU in Dallas for video game design.

2. Same as above but instead of CCCC the community college in Dallas, then music/art school in Austin.

3. Join the Navy

I'm puzzled at what I want to do too. It's so frustrating to think about too because this is my FUTURE and I don't really know what I want to do. I just don't see how people can just plan ahead like they do.
