Can it be done? I know series 2 added the bias select switch but will the series 1 take them also or am I stuck with 6L6s?

Chances are they added it to allow you to use either EL34s or 6L6's. I would be certain that you can't use EL34's with your amp.

It's no loss really. I would look for some better preamp tubes and maybe some nice powertubes and you would probably notice a huge difference.

I'm just tired of hearing rectifier owners rage about how they didn't realize what the amp could do until they swapped for el34's. Guess I'll never know.

unless you have the EL34/ 6L6 switch, then no you cannot
