SRV uses his raking technique over single note solos and he strums over muted strings to get a fatter/thicker sound...

...is there any way we can strum over our solos (instead of picking them) in order to get a stronger rhythmic drive?

This is in view of being the sole guitarist - whereby you transit from rhythm (strumming chords) to lead playing - but you do not want such a sharp drop in rhythmic drive...

So you mean when working out the 12-bar blues, during the solo portions, I will anchor down the lead playing with the root notes and have freedom to improvise over the root anchors?
