Can anyone explain to me what makes it a great movie? I saw it because i heard that it was the greatest sci-fi movie ever and i wasn't very impressed. Anyone explain to me what makes it so much better than, say, The Matrix?

because it uses subtle story telling and good acting to improve on a good script

rather then big explosions to improve on a crap script

yeah I agree

plus I'm hoping you saw the director's cut, not the original theatrical

just the whole film, apart from maybe the holloywood cheese with the bird as Roy dies, is amazing, its a film about a small niche in time and the characters intertwined, and the open ending is awesome

Yeah, I count the director's cut as the real version. The original theatrical version is pretty terrible. I love the director's cut version.

It's pacing is better than any action film. It is visually stunning, the story is great, there are many memorable characters, the acting is great, the atmosphere is unparalleled, it's vision of the future reflects the present to a certain degree. It's a real sci-fi movie, not just an action movie driven by fantastic combat.

It's just so much better than the Matrix.
