So I've recently picked up a bass and I'm looking to get a pretty decent practice amp that isn't too expensive. Let's just say I can spend up to $500. I've been playing guitar for about seven years, so I'm pretty sure bass is something I won't be giving up anytime soon.

fender BXR, 25-watt. It's all I have, and it's great. Got it used, no problems, sounds clean and basic. Only complaint is the weight, it's pretty heavy

Before I make some suggestion with your budget, you have quite a few options.

So what are you looking for in an amp? Do you want something you can potentially play at small to medium gigs with? Do you want a transparent or distinct tone from the amp? How important is overall portability to you?

Not really planning on gigging anytime soon. I just want to learn to play the instrument. I've been playing music long enough to where the sound is pretty important to me, but I'm not expecting the greatest tone ever. Portability isn't very important either. It's going to remain parked at my apartment for some time.
