So, got a hybrid amp, one preamp tube...and I was wondering what tube would add a little more gain and perhaps a darker tone. Thanks in advance...oh, and preamp tubes are self-biasing correct? And they are the smaller ones, right? Thanks again.

I don't know anything about Hybrid amps, but JJ high gain 12AX7 tubes are on the darker side, but can also be muddy.

it's one pre-amp tube. Even if you do swap it out it wont make enough of a difference to notice

Again, don't know anything about hybrids, but swapping out just the one V1 tube on my amps makes a HUGE difference.
