So I'm thinking of taking my standard fretless Jazz Bass and coating the fingerboard with epoxy. I want to put roundwound strings on it to get more of a Jaco sound but if I do that the fingerboard will be worn down completely.

I've never done this before but maybe someone else who has done it can answer a few questions I have.

How much epoxy do I have to put on it? Separate coats?
Do I have to sand down the fingerboard and if yes then how much?
What do I risk, besides f***ing up the neck and having to buy a new one?
Is the process easy and what should I be careful for while doing it?

I would appreciate anyone with answers. Thanks.

polyurethane is easier to use.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.
