no, no impact on tone, in fact, theoretically speaking through mass/transmission of energy (string vibrations) it would slightly lower your "sustain" but thats if you believe all of that bullshit anyways. no difference.

All that would change by not carving a thick top is that it's going to look different and be heavier.
