I am finishing a Carvin and would like to get one of the crackle-style finishes such as from ALSA.

However, they appear to be poly finishes, which normally would melt under a lacquer topcoat.

i can't imagine using poly as a clear coat since if is gets dinged, it is hard to repair. I have always used nitrocellulose lacquer on guitars.

Any ideas on who makes some interesting lacquer paints or is there another way around this?

Thanks,.
