Some days ago I posted a thread asking for hel pabout having a scratchy tone. I fixed it [kinda] but someone said to try to change my gauge. I've found that solution while searching with the searchbar too but I wana know:

Why would changing my gauge make my tone less scratchy? And Do I have to buy higher gauge strings or lower?

if your in standerd then 10's should be good. Heavyer guage strings are for drop tuning.

yea but why does higher or lower gauge strings make your tone go more scratchy? That's what I want to know kinda.

heavier gauge strings just generally make your tone thicker and ballsier would be why. 10s are fine, whoever said it was probably just wondering if you were using like 8s or something.

So if I put higher gauge = less scratch or it's the inverse?
