Motley Crue uses D Standard, never seen them just dropping the first string. Drop D is like System of a Down, Disturbed (most of the time they both use Drop C and C#, but close enough), Alice in Chains, some of the heavier Nirvana songs (like Blew), about half of the Rage Against the Machine songs (like Killing in the Name of and Freedom)

Think of heavy alternative and nu metal bands

SOAD is generally Drop C, and I'm pretty sure AiC used a variety of tunings. I know Them Bones is Drop Db.

The newer SOAD is Db, the older stuff is C.

Either way he still has the extra notes on the B string.

Most Metal Bands use CGCFAD and down

Staind and Breaking Benjamiin use drop tunings

Black Stone Cherry, Escape the Fate, Blink 182 are a few but any kind of metal
will usually use drop tunings

A 5 string is not a substitute for drop tuning. It often makes playing drop tuned songs far harder, especially when they are using the open D a lot. Suck it up and drop that E down.
