Hi

I need a piece for my AS level music performance. At GCSE, I played For The Love Of God by Steve Vai, and I need something else with that kind of feel. However, I no longer have a floyd rose, I'm using a 7 string Ibanez. So nothing that relies too heavily on the whammy bar, if possible. I was thinking of doing some early Meshuggah, but it's a little harsh for an examiner, I reckon. I then thought about doing some Dream Theater, but it's often too long. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

That's an idea. I prefer Scarified though. I was thinking about Extraction by Greg Howe, but it's still an idea. Anything else?

Cliffs Of Dover by Eric Johnson maybe?

I think this is just a thread to brag about the more advanced songs you can play.

If you can do two Vai songs then I'd suggest Lotus Feet. The orchestral versions for both songs sound much better IMO. Or if you wanna experiment, you could arrange a jazz piece for rock guitar. Something like Alabama or Giant Steps (both by John Coltrane) sound amazing if played right, and plus they are jazz standards, will get you quite some good marks from music examiners.

I apologise but your post came across to me as "look at me!".

for example...
I played For The Love Of God by Steve Vai

Toby reads...
"Look what difficult song i can play!"
I'm using a 7 string Ibanez

Toby reads...
"I'm awesome because i have a 7 string!"
I was thinking of doing some early Meshuggah, but it's a little harsh for an examiner

Toby reads...
"I'm just too brutal for the examiner!"

Of course i may just be acting bitter and jealous because i cannot play Steve Vai songs nor do i have a 7 string...

Nonetheless i'll leave peacefully

have a nice day

I'm doing the same course and our teacher advised us to do something with lots of dynamics, so I don't think metal is really a good idea. I'm still stuck for what I'm going to do, probably something really easy 70s thing...
