Hey guys Ive learned guitar for 1 year now and i have a very bad yamaha electric guitar/amp.... (i was very new and i had no helpers..)
yeah so i want to buy a new guitar now and i can afford up to 800$ (btw im in canada) i like listening to metal music but i cant play yet...
so what kind of guitar should i get?

I'd replace the amp to be honest. Yamaha starter guitars are pretty nice (I'm assuming it's the Pacifica 012, is that right?), the amps are known to be sh*t though. How much is 800 canadian in US $?
You'll probably only need it for home use right? (no band/gigs?)

EDIT: You can get verygood results with a cheap Yamaha and a good modeling amp.

Or upgrade both, get a Strat or Epi LP or look on eBay and find one in the $400 range and find a good amp also.

$800? With that you culd get a decent Ibanez and a 212 amp if you are frugal enough. Hit up a shop and see what you like, after all, it is your decision.
Out here you've gotta know where your towel is!

No, don't do that.. Get an Ibanez SZ 320. I've been playing for 8 years and that is my axe. Here is the link-- http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-2005-SZ320-Electric-Guitar-?sku=519983 And you can go very far with 800 dollars considering you have 400 left. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crate-Flexwave-FW120-2x12-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=481052 this amp has everything you need to get gigging. Footswitch for channels, 3 channels to customize your tone. The sound is EXCELLENT. Cleans are deep, crunch can go from zep to metallica, and the gain is slayer+cannibal corpse and a ton of other metal. Get these two babies, I promise you'll love em. Throw in a Monster cable http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Monster-Cable-Rock-14-Straight-Instrument-Cable?sku=331650 21' and you're ready to play what-, where-, and however.
