Now, if you're not aware of Decibel, they DO cover and review metal, but they also cover metalcore, hardcore, crust, etc. as well. So while you may not think some of these riffs are very "metal", just remember that the mag isn't what would be considered as "tr00" as some others.

It's still a great, well rounded mag, IMO, and this list belongs here.

ALSO, this will not please everyone. Don't expect it to be perfect. Take it for what it is, which is one publication's opinion on the topic. (keyword: opinion)

TO THE LIST!!!

11. "Christbait Rising" (4:54-6:24)- Godflesh
10. "Into the Crypts of Rays" (1:54-2:09)- Celtic Frost
9. "43% Burnt" (intro/outro)- The Dillinger Escape Plan

So, yeah, I may have a few changes, etc. but I think it's a pretty solid list. Nothing TERRIBLY wrong with it, IMO, but it's not the greatest list ever, IMO.

Discuss.

Not a bad list. There are plenty I haven't heard, but most of the names don't seem too out of place. The ones that I've heard from that list are all great riffs.
#4
this looks like an interesting magazine (i've heard of it, but never looked into it)
they seem to have a good variety; thrash, post, death, doom...
intro to The Somberlain=

Pig Destroyer! Woo! Although it's not too surprising to see them on here, Decibel seems to mention them whenever they get a chance in lists or articles.

Stupid idea for a list

It's the mag's 50th issue, so they decided to do a special Top 50 list.

Not my choice.

For shame. Not all that much of it was extreme metal... But, there were a few good ones in there.

Corporal jigsore quandary is a pretty kickass riff, but they could have chosen a far better Morbid Angel song... Enshrined by Grace anyone?
#17
Good to see that the Corporal Jigsore Quandary riff is placed so high.
Also, the intro to The Somberlain=sex
#19
No Maze of Torment intro riff = Fail.

Also missing Suffocation, Atheist, Immortal, etc.

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

0-0-0-13-0-0-0-0-13 or something like that alalalala but It;s so heavy and off time and awesome and you could not f**k anyone to it.

wat

They choose ONE Pantera riff, and they go with the intro to I'm Broken? The breakdown in 5 Minutes Alone FFS, best riff ever.

Ah well, seeing names like Slayer and Pantera on these lists always makes me smile.
#23
Pretty good list overall although I disagree with some choises. Like the At The Gates one. Blinded By Fear isn't even in their top 5 in my opinion.

I'd put Thrones of Blood Somewhere in the the top ten, nevermind top 50.

Still I never take lists like this too seriously - just mildly interesting.

To clear up a little, Decibel also provided descripstions as to why they loved the riff, and the top 10 riffs had input from a musician in the band (and Lars Ulrich).

I just wasn't going to type EVERYTHING out.

If you want the full article, buy the mag.

I seem to be the only person so far who noticed the Kyuss.

Seriously; I love Kyuss, I really do, but it's hardly extreme metal is it?

Extreme is really anything that is far away from the "norm". So, technically, I could see how they could see Kyuss as something of the sort.

But, again, not my choice.

No Vader? Litany is bursting with awesome riffs.

I will compliment the magazine on the Carcass pick. Well done, indeed.
Dyer's Eve is awesome, and has an abnormally large penis, which doesn't act as any hinderance to his everyday life despite its freakishly large size.

1. "Raining Blood" (51:-1:27)- Slayer

That song has much better riffs than that one in it. I hate playing that riff when I play that song.

There's maybe 5 or 6 songs there that would have made it on to my list.

But being brutally honest, probably none of them.

I wouldn't mind so much if the list didn't have "Extreme Metal" in the title.

If I was making an "Extreme Metal" list, not one song there has a hope of getting on mine.
