Earlier this week I had a thread on here that involved using a THD hotplate and cranking the amp and it blew a fuse. Normally I wouldn't post the final reason but i found it amusing and had a small "just in case" sort of question.

The fuse that blew was a 2.5 amp fuse( can't remember the other specifications but that doesn't matter) My brother looked in his owner's manual and found, to his surprise, that the amp is supposed to be equipped with a 4 amp fuse....No wonder it blew!

Now, I'm just about completely certain that running an amp with a fuse that blows earlier than the recommended fuse can't possibly cause damage to an amp, but i figured this isn't really my expertise and I thought i'd ask you guys? so, can an underrated fuse damage an amp, or can only an overrated fuse end up damaging an amp?

an overrated fuse would probably be worse for an amp.

i'd assume an underrated fuse would be like having a car alarm that went off if a feather landed on it.

Ya. that's the way i'm seein it too. I should also mention he got the amp used. None of us are at fault for the wrong fuse.
