As I posted in this thread. My "LP" Is down and out for the moment so I am in need of a new one with 2 buckers and double set of tone\volume.

Iv spent 2 years drooling over a Hagsrøm Viking and are now seriously considering geting it. Trouble is... first of all i dont know what I am doing, second I will buy it of the interwebs. So I dont get to try it out before I get it.
But it looks to me as somthing solid and relativly highquality, but is it worth spending a little more to get lets say a Gibson SG?

I do like the semihollowbody thing that the viking has going on, but a real Gibson is... you know...

Questions:
1: Hollow body? Does it double for a acoustic to some degree?
2: is it big? Im 176 cm tall(ish) When I see like BB king, who is no small chap, holding his semihollow, it looks big. WIll I have trouble with the sheer size of the thing?
3:the strapnuts.... are they better located than on a LP?
3,5: is it heavy?
4:The tailpice? can you press it down and make sort of a tremolo effect?
5:It can do rock fairly good right?

What's wrong with using your ibby instead?

But, the Hagsrøm seems fine. As long as you stick to mid-gain and lower, it'll be perfect.

Hagstrom is at least 10 times better than Gibson.
Semihollows aren't very good at handling high-gain tones like heavy metal (though i've seen the Viking do it decently), so you might want to go for a solid body guitar if that's what you're going to do.
Semihollows do not really double as acoustic guitars, unless you're playing to a crowd of about 3 people.
They're also usually pretty big, but being mostly hollow, they're incredibly light.
No, the tailpiece will not do a tremolo effect.
It will do rock very well, from Rancid to AC/DC, just not metal.

If it's single coil, with hi-gain it might feedback like mad.

LTD is a wee bit over my budget and it still dotn have tone\vol x 2 and I want that.

If I could I would want it with push\pull volume knobs to split the buckers. But I think that is over my price range to

BUT! I do have a busted guitar that I might experiment with

get the sg. its not that different than les paul in tone but much more comfortable to play with . not to mention a way better access to higher frets.

I suppose getting an SG or one of those Ibanez Artcore things will be good.

Oh really? I read about gibson having quality control issues with the electronics, and even bad fret dressings.

Fixed.
EDIT: Fix'd again.

i dunno, ive played a huge Ibanez Jazz Box, i think it was an artcore AK model, and it had fantastic acoustic sounding unplugged tone,

as opposed to a Gretsch, a g5120 i believe, that played equally nice, looked equally nice, but had no where near the same acoustic qualities, but it DID have a bigsby unlike the ibanez.

maybe ill find a link to both of them

EDIT:

my friends got an epiphone sheraton II, and the thing is AMAZING. beautiful sweet sound.

the stock pickups are beautiful. huge sustain, sweet rich tone.
very light guitar, like a feather.

and it's so luxurious. from the binding to the inlays.

check it out. now.
you won't regret it
