If you remove Slayer and Korn, and add everything by Opeth, it would be better.

Meh.

Machine Head should make an album called Deep Purple. But yeah. That's a good collection.

Trust me man, it's Smoke on the Water. Deep Purple only wrote one song.

Why do you have only one album for each artist? (with a couple exceptions)

good point, yeah, um...

the only artist i have all albums of is SOAD, and they're not even my favourite band.

i guess it's cause i've tried to collect a lot of classics (IV, MACHINE HEAD, etc) and most bands (with a few exceptions) have only 1-2 seminal, influential albums.

granted, there are a LOT i don't have, but i'm doing ok for a 15 year old, i think?

3/10 for opeth being on the bottom. you only get 3 because of holy diver.

1. you shouldn't base your collection on having a 'well rounded collection' of music that can be respected. You think you should have IV and Machine Head because they're the most influential albums that those artists put out, not because you absolutely love those albums? If you like the music, listen to it; if you don't, don't. My question is, if you like an artist's music, why the hell would you stop at one album? You're missing out on a lot of diversity in an artist's collection by only having one album. Remember, and this goes double for older artists, no one album will encompass an artist's sound.

2. Does it really matter how good you're doing for a 15 year old? You could die tomorrow, you might not live to 50. If you think you're doing good for your age, but you know you'll need to expand your collection as you get older, don't wait until later. You'll probably have the most disposable income at 15 than any other time of your life, so use it wisely.

... Unless you don't find it that necessary to expose yourself to as much music as possible, which is fine (despite what many on this forum might say), but in that case, you shouldn't care what people in the Pit think of your music collection.

cool. One thing

1. I know what you're saying, but apart from Pink Floyd all the artists i like i went out and bought on word-of-mouth, because they were mentioned as great albums (and to all the Opeth fans, yes they are a great band so far as i know and i'm catching up on them.)
But before i bought them on word of mouth, i hadn't heard them, so i didn't really go from what i loved because i didn't have or love any music yet(!).

so yeah, so when checking out music i hadn't heard, i naturally went for what was recommended to me rather than any random album. So maybe you get my reasoning there.

and i forget what 2. is...oh yeah...the amount of music...

well seeing as i've just gotten my first job and cd player, i'll be listening to a lot more from now on hopefully.
