haha, i've always wondered what chords these guys use, because they're not just standard power chords because i saw them live, and they play like thumb chords, does anyone know, kind of an idea of where it is? i've always kind of liked it.

Definitely not open G. They're playing in drop C# by the sounds of it, and they just use lots of major chords. Catchy stuff.

Well to get some of those chord formations, you might have to change your tuning.

Major chords = happy. Major progressions + major chords + major vocals = really happy.

And like I said, the tuning is in drop C#

Exactly but he is asking about the actual position of the fingers, tuning doesnt matter and doesnt affect it as much

Yes, but a major chord is a major chord. TS, try reverse power chords.
