So, do any of you think its weird to buy a signature guitar/bass? I think its strange that someone would buy a copy of someone else's instrument. Any others?

Btw, didnt know what forum to put this in

I have, but not because of the artist, but because the guitar was amazing. Sig gear is usually a cheap rip off of the real thing, since most people don't want to pay 5k for a hand made guitar or 15k on a insane rack set up.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

I doubt it, but if someone's really had the perfect sound for me then why not? but i would never buy a guitar just cuz they put my favorite guitarists name on it.

it has a really good distortion and clean sound a little to much hum in the background but i guess thats why they call them humbuckers"

the Eric Johnson and Clapton strats are pretty sweet. I'd buy it and sand the name off or something. They're a little overpriced though. Well a lot.

i guess...for example, the Jeff Hanneman signature ESP ( the 430 dollar one ) has a Kahler-X tremolo, which makes it worth it i guess

I have a Zakk Wylde les paul and I really wanna try out a J5 Tele deluxe. But definately not because of the names. Neither are anywhere near my favourite guitarists. I just like the guitars.

I wouldn't suggest getting one. They're made in like, China. THe limited edition ones were the good ones, now I'd rather get a USA Custom Shop ML with a trem system, and shove in the BL XL500L's and L500R with chrome covers for extra high end + clarity. It's more expensive, but the quality and sound of the instrument will be much better.
#24
I would get one as long as it suited my playing style and I liked the sound. To be honest I really could care less about the name they attach to it as long as it's a good guitar.

I was tryin out an Esp truckster (James Hetfeilds signature model for those of you not in the know) and it was a nice enough guitar, but its like they slapped 500 quid on simply for the name. mind you I was playing through a shittly little marshall...

The only one i can see myself buying in the future is Page's Black Beauty because of the upgrades and versatility in the pickup switching.

Also John Sykes' L.P - just because that is my ideal from a guitar.

The both need to knock a grand off though.....

There is.
Gibson Les Paul - Signature guitar.

Zakk Wylde Les paul - Sig of a Sig guitar!
Slash Les Paul - Sig of a Sig guitar!

I'm guessing everyone who voted "No" doesn't play a Les Paul.

Right now the only one I'd buy is Alex Lifeson's Gibson ES-355.
- Fender American Standard Ash Telecaster w/ DiMarzio Chopper T & Twang King
- Alhambra 5P
- Laney Lionheart L5T-112
- Line 6 POD XT
- Suhr Shiba Drive
- MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay
- Dunlop Cry Baby

Would a Les Paul be considered a signature instrument since he did partially design it and its his main guitar?

Technically an RR5 is a signature model, i'm sure a lot of people forget that.
I'd buy a Dean Dave Mustaine VMNT, just for the Angel of Deth artwork.

I thought he desgned it completely. And then Gibson didn't really want to be associated with it so they called it the Les Paul

I had the same concern about them being from china but they really are awesome........they are head and shoulders above anything else at that price range.
