Get a better amp over a better guitar.
Like $500 amp, $400 guitar.
it's all just coming back
it's all coming back

it's all coming back to me

Do you need the amp for gigs / band rehearsals or just for home practice? Spiders are okay for home use, but they sound bad at higher volumes. And even if you'll only use it at home there are better amps, like a Vox Valvetronix AD15VT or Ibanez Valbee.

i dont do gigs and i only practise, play songs at home...
so i thought spiders might do me good

Are you using it at home or for gigging?

EDIT: Look at a Vox Valvetronix or Roland Cube if you want effects built in, or a small tube amp of some sort if not. If there's a possibility that you will start playing in a band, try a Peavey Valveking 112.

The guitar is decent. Although the Spider... Won't get any good reviews of it around on these forums.. Get a VOX AD15VT XL or something else.. The Spider won't do any justice for metal.

The guitar has a Floyd Rose on it. NOT GOOD FOR DOWN TUNING! Keep this in mind incase you want to play Slipknot on it or something.

Look into the vox valvetronix, roland cube, and peavey vypyr. I haven't tried the cube but i highly recommend the vox or peavey.

I dont think the spider is acceptable at any volume. Check out the Roland microcube and the peavey vyper they will serve you much better.

Guitar; It's decent, but tbh I think you should concentrate a bit more on the amp.

Amp; In my experience Spider III's tend to suck. Just spend the extra $50 for a Vox Valvetronix or Roland cube, or, if you somehow can't get $50 more, a Peavey Vypyr.

Amp; Nice.

Guitar; Try some Schecters. Personally I'd recommend the PT Standard, but get what you like.

If you'll only need the amp for home use, a vox ad15vt or ad15xl are good. Both nicely versatile amps with the xl being more metal oriented. You can get the ad30vt if you want more volume though, it's bigger speaker also helps with the bass response. I couldn't find a link to the xl versions of these, however the prices are similar:

EDIT: The Peavey should work for you as well.

I'd avoid using an EMG equipped guitar like the one you linked to unless you have a really good tube amp to play through. Active pups don't go well with solid state and lower end tube amps. I'd also avoid Floyd equipped guitars unless you're 100% certain you need a Floyd. They're a pain in the ass to set up.
These guitars are better alternatives imo:

Have a look at similarly priced Ibanez and Yamaha guitars as well.

@ Andrew; See my above post for my recommendations. Quailman gave some good suggestions too though, give those a look as well.

I own that amp (older model, no plug to right of out jack, though) and my friend owns the guitar. It is a nice combination, though you better plan on turning it up high if you don't want to hear the guitar over the amplification, otherwise, Go For It!!!

Look for a Schecter Blackjack or a C1 as well. great guitars that should fit in your price range.
