I had the exact same problem for months. Is the router brand new, or has he been using it for a while?

Well, try this then.

Start menu
Run
type in ipconfig /all
Enter the internet settings onto your 360. This worked for me the first time I had problems. Let me know if it helps or not.

Well, my router didn't work at first, but then once I hooked my laptop up to it, Xbox Live worked fine. I'm not an expert on these things, so yeah.

Maybe if you try clearing your DNS cache. I really don't know.

EDIT: I'm just trying to help because I remember when I lost my Xbox Live. Longest three months of my life. I really feel for you.

don't feed him crap like that

are you using the wireless adapter or just running it straight through an ethernet cable into your router/laptop?
