When I change pickups, and I need to remove the existing pickups, do I just heat up the metal that the solder is on for it to warm up or do I actually touch the solder itself? Kind of a dumb question but I don't want to screw up anythig.
Touch the solder. Make sure you remove it though with a solder sucker thing or some of that tape (I don't know what it's called) reheating the solder makes a bad joint more likely. Just use some new solder. Don't rush it but don't be too slow otherwise you risk overheating the wire and causing it to oxidise, which produces more resistance in the connection.
