Me and my flatmate at uni are having this debate. Apparently Sonic can't be a superhero because he isn't human

What are your thoughts (see poll)?

Eh. Not really. It would depend on what game he's in.

Sonic the Hedgehog I'd guess.

And yes, damn right he is.

He can turn in to Super Sonic, he becomes invinsible. If that ain't a super hero, who is?
#8
He just isn't.
It's wrong. He's a video game character, not a super hero.

SuperHero
Super Hero

a hero with superpowers

That's just through an add on though isn't it?

I wouldn't call Mario when he gets a star a superhero but aren't they sort of the same thing?

Well, which game in the series?

I mean, in the classic ones, he basically a really fast small mammal that saved animals from some weirdo who used them for power generation. Nice thing to do, but not really "super," even if done while Super Sonic.

On the other hand, facing off with Chaos and having the whole city cheer him on at the end of Sonic Adventure was pretty god damn heroic.

No, he is awesome!

Now on a serious note, he saved the world at least once (Sonic adventure 2) so I guess he would be a hero, and he can turn into Super Sonic so he is also super. Now with a simple equation Hero + Super = Superhero, there you go.

I dunno I'd think of it more of like... an adaptation to his environment.

When I personally think "superhero" I think radiation forced X person to be able to do Y permanently, turning their life upside down and choosing to use it to fight evil.

a very unique adaptation that wasn't at all required...

and if I remember correctly he only started fighting evil after he turned blue.

In some games, yes. But he ain't a human. So, idk.

Neither is Superman, the Green Lantern, and countless others.

Then again, Superman sucks and we all know it...

Okay the blueness was an adaptation that wasn't required but it's not quite a "superpower" is it... and the invincibility occurred after he needed it so.... O__O

No, he is not. I can name 50 game characters (Mario, Master Chief, Gordan freeman) who have extraordinary powers. They just aren't considered superheros.

In his world everyone seems to be a super hero.

Sonic is just super.

But Batman never has any superpowers. Does that mean he's not a superhero? I'm serious. That's a pretty important question.

and he saves the citizens of mobius (the little animals in the robots) from slavery (being forced inside the robots for power generation and other such things) and persecution.

Maybe it shouldn't be limited to superpowers... but he does have a life-changing event. I think that'd be a big part in it. The Spiderman film has a life-changing event which makes him choose to use his powers....

So, would you consider Dr. Octopus a villain, or a super villain?

Sonic went through a similar thing. He gained his super-speed after an experiment with Dr Kintobor's new speed trainers went wrong. In the process Sonic's spikes turned blue (due to the heat from his super-speed turning him blue-hot), he gained the super-speed permanently and Kintobor had his brain imbalanced, turning him into the evil Dr. Robotnik. From then on, Sonic fought evil using the super-speed and various other powers.

There. The ultra-geek has spoken and Sonic is a superhero. Game, set and [/thread]
