What is the difference between these 3 items; Violin, Viola, and Cello. What's the difference? I've heard people say that they are different, but no one ever explains how/why.

Okay, I can understand not being able to tell between a violin and a viola. But seriously, are you blind? How do you not tell the difference between violin/viola and cello?

...modes and scales are still useless.

a cello is pretty big, the other two are small. ones higher pitched out of the other two.
wen i ask they say that they fall into the habit smhw ........but nyways i think there is a connection smwhere. Now i being a teetollar will not give into this habit nyhw

FOR JUST £2 A WEEK, YOU CAN PREVENT THIS.

I obviously SEE the difference, but as far as playing wise and theory and all that jazz, what's the difference. I mean I can SEE the difference in a standup bass, and a standard bass, but what's the REAL difference . . . get me?

Cello - big thing. Played in a more upright position.
Violin - little thing, played under the chin. Comparitively bright tone.
Viola - slightly larger thing, played under the chin. Lower range, slightly darker tone.

And what Xiaoxi said.

I could've sworn the viola is smaller. >_>
Are you sure?

They each have different penis size requirements for use.

I'm hearing a steady *thump thump* from the people above me and I need some porno grooves to play on my bass to give them some background music. Any ideas?

Yeah. I play viola. And a little bit of of violin, and a little bit of cello.

The technique between violin and viola is pretty much the same, though - just viola requires stretching a bit more.

Ahh okay. I believe you.

Violin is small and plays in treble cleft, Viola is bigger than a violin and plays in alto cleft, cello plays in bass and its the one you sit down to play

-Violin: highest range. trebel clef. tuning from low to high is GDAE (5ths). Brightest, sharpest timbre. played with raised arms and under chin. smallest of the viol family.
Viola: middle range. alto clef. tuning is CGDA (5ths). Mellow timbre. same posture as violin. slightly larger than a violin.
Cello: bass range. bass clef tuning is CGDA but the pitch and octaves are lower than that of the violin. dark timbre. played upright.

"difference in theory" doesn't make any sense.

The feel between a violin and a viola is similar. However, they'd still feel awkward for either player to play the other instrument.

Cello has a completely different posture from violin/viola. Not even a similar feel to violin or viola.

...modes and scales are still useless.

It's like the difference between electric guitar and electric bass but with violins. In both cases, the cello and electric bass, the bigger your instrument, the cooler you are.

Or, the more acoustics hate you and make you virtually inaudible compared to the smaller ones...
