What are UG's opinions about them? I might be testing them this weekend or next ... I own a marshall and have played a raven ... but before I play them, I wanna know if it's worth it.

Wayyy to general buddy.
Krank's are great for metal.
Raven's are just pure shit.
Crate has some terrible SS amps and some nice tubes.
Marshall has some shit SS and some pretty good tubes

Raven: Crap.
Marshall: Tube=Good, MG/AVT=Urgh
Krank: Pretty good, an acquired taste from what I've heard
Crate: Tube amps are good deal, but are pretty low gain, SS are utter Sh*t.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

can you give us specific models, your not really helping us much by just mentioning brands. It's like me saying i want to buy a car, what are people's impressions of volve, audi and bmw.

Can you give us some specifics?
Giving a brand name helps us little. Actual amps? How about a price range and styles so we can tell you what amps to look for?
#10
Ok ...

Price Range: $100 - $500
Style: Anything from hard rock to ska ... pretty much anything that has/involves rock.
Models: I'm not to sure ... Roland Cube, Vox Valvetronix ...

Edit: Also the Line 6 Flextone

It's all opinion.
To me, I don't like the Marshall voicing on any of there amps.
Kranks are too muddy for me.
All the Crates I've played sounded like crap for what I play.
And I've never played Raven, so I can't comment on them.

If I were going to put up the cash for a Krank or Marshall I'd probably get a Mesa MKIV, or look for a cheap Mesa TriAxis and a 50/50 Mesa poweramp. Or a used Engl Powerball, or a used Splawn Nitro. There are tons of choices, but you telling us the company and not the model isn't really helping either.

Those are good bands. The Vox AD30Vt might fit your style nicely if you have a distortion pedal and don't play a lot of metal.

Imo Rolands are the best SS amps (at least at that price range) for metal and they're good for rock too.

Peaveys are known to be well-built, and generally sound pretty good-transtube SS are held in high regard, and most of their tube amps=win.

Are you serious? I've had my eye on the Kustom HV30. Is that crap?
