I'm currently listening to 'A Torturers Tale' on Radio 4 and one of the torturers being interviewed has talked about music being used as a form of torture.

He said that often prisoners he was interrogating in Iraq were placed in a room where loud music is then played. Often the prisoners were shackled in awkward and painful positions to make them talk.

What does the Pit think? Is this practice abuse of music? How would you feel if a piece of music you'd written was used in this way?

Honestly if I was one of those prisoners and they started playing led zeppelin, I would tell them everything I know.

i doubt that they used some random song, and if they did they probably played them at an insanely high level or somehow made them extremely annoying

I'd enjoy that......

I can remember something I read about Metallica's Enter Sandman being used.

Abuse of music? Maybe. If you make me stare at the Mona Lisa for 8 hours I'd go insane. It's a beautiful painting and all but seriously, 8 hours?

Didn't you hear about the guy who got a ticket for playing rap music too loud? Judge said they would lower the fine if he listened to 20 hours of classical music. That could be seen as torture to some people.

They're probably blasting it at over 120 decibels.

Where sound turns to pain.

Literally.

If I was interrogating terrorists and had to use music to get my information I'd use the last 20 seconds of "A day in the life" by the beatles in a loop. Or led zeppelin.

You could do it.

Use Noise music at very loud volumes, whilst i do enjoy it some, after long periods and at a very hight volume it would become very torturous..

Or RickRoll them constantly

That's the first thing I thought about when I read the OP... Although it's not really the same thing.

I'm guessing the torture had more to it than just the music. (shackled in awkward and painful positions)

And imo, there could be way better music for it than death metal.

And I wouldn't care if some music I made was used for torture Actually, that'd be awesome.

I would use drum solos......much better and I coukd play them myself.

I heard somewhere (a testimony from a torture victim i believe) that they (the US torturers) would use Eminem, among other artists, played at high volumes for days at a time, to extract confessions.
kill all humans

Haha! Goodly! That sounds like heaven! Unless it was like preppy music and like that fake-punk, and fake-punk stuff.

Then yeah I argee it is a form of torture.

At a haunted house thing, there was a segment where you were alone, and while you walked through, they had DevilDriver playing. It just sets the mood I guess.
