Emo in the 90s have long known as a celebration of youth,a ceremony for the glory of being young. Not just heartbreak songs but also heartbreak songs with a solution, optimistic songs that fueled out high school life or days of our youth.
For me the biggest live changing songs that fueled my life and my lovelife would be:
1.Cap'n Jazz - Oh Messy life
2.Cap'n Jazz - Ooh do I love you
3.Boys Life - Lister
4.Boys Life - Fire engine Red
5.Rites Of Spring - Persistent Vision
6.Braid - Harrison Ford
7.Braid - Killing A Camera
8.Dashboard Confessional - Am I Missing
9.Dashboard Confessional - Screaming Infidelities
10.Christie Front Drive - Dirt
11.Chrisite Front Drive - valentine
12.Ataris - Boys Of Summer

So What's the soundtrack of your younger days then?

There's far too many songs to list here, I have a playlist of all the songs that had a huge impact on me maybe five or six years ago and it goes on for 3hrs.

Just a brief snapshot:

New Found Glory - The Minute I Met You
Blink 182 - Untitled
Rancid - Time Bomb
NOFX - Leave It Alone
Fenix TX - Katie W
Bouncing Souls - True Believers
Less Than Jake - All My Best Friends Are Metalheads
Alister - Somewhere On Fullerton
OPM - El Capitan
All-American Rejects - Swing, Swing
Mest - What's The Dillio
The Ataris - Radio 2
The Used - The Taste Of Ink
Finch - Letters To You
Boy's Night Out - Just Once, Let's Do Something Different
Taking Back Sunday - Cute Without The 'e'
Mest - Chelsea
Reel Big Fish - Where Have You Been?
Don't Look Down - Wake Me
Glassjaw - Cosmopolitan Bloodloss
Foolproof - Paper House
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

Pretty varied in terms of their location on a time line, but these were all songs that really steered me in the right direction when I was just getting into music. These were constantly on repeat no matter what else I was listening to. Call them crap. Call them trite. Call them whatever. That's what got me to where I'm at right now, and I'm not ashamed of it in the slightest!

I was reading that post for about 5 minutes trying to figure out why I'd never heard of the band Jew.
#12
well,it seems i need to expand the spectrum to more than just emo,but still youth punk, you name it hardcore, post hardcore,so called emo, punk, indie emo, hardcore punk, etc. For friends who stated cap'n jazz as their youth soundtrack i salute you!Anyway jew really does exist, they were a post hardcore band a little bit screamo though in my opinion, hahahaha wrong!Jew is a short for Jimmy Eat World!hahahahaha, yeah i like sweetness and bleed america.GUatemala from moss icon also good for introspective time and soundtrack for lonely time or being grounded in the room.

+1 for Ataris...haven't listened to them in a while though. Thanks for reminding me!

Listening to All American Rejects and Glassjaw doesnt suck at all man.

Hey i found out that listening to Chamberlain's old album really fun, kind a reminded me of old matchbox twenty, old three doors down, and those folk rock alternative days mixed with post hardcore sensibility.Even now they changed direction into bluesy pop rock,it still have that sinsitive touch.

Wow your chronology is the same as mine.At first i got at the drive in stuff at my junior high years, then dashboard and ataris stuff when in high school and then at my junior year at college i turned into cap'n jazz, rites of spring and braid and eventually the whole 90's emo.Such retrospective metamorphosis....

Anyway thanks to Ultimate-guitar which gives me knowledge and opened my eyes about what hardcore and post hardcore really about..

I listened to ****ty music as a tot. Middle school was mainstream rap and some pop punk (and meshuggah..?). High school kicked off my heavy music binge with Atreyu, Norma Jean and Unearth along with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Dream Theater and Eric Johnson. It was only in the past 3 years or so that I got into this kind of stuff.

All The Small Things - Blink 182

Probably the first Pop-punk song I listened to. I associate that song with my first year in Secondary School/High School. To be fair I didn't exactly have the widest musical pallet back then, I don't think I even listened to music back then.
