For the love of God - Steve Vai
Great song, starts off slow and mellow then builds and of course you can improvise as much as you'd like over that. Cool song really

Stick with Satch and Vai. Priding themselves on their musicality as they do, they have a fair few soft songs.

Get Vai's seventh songs compilation; every track seven of his albums was a ballad type thing and he compiled them all there. that's exactly what you're after.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

That is some of Randy's best work right there.

As others have been saying, Vai and Satch have great melodic sensibilities, and a few very mellow, yet shredtastic songs.

IMITATION is the lowest form of wit.
Randy is generally credited as being a topnotch shredder.

I stick by my initial reccomendation: Vai's seventh songs compilation.
