I'm trying to work on my finger independence lately and I was wondering if anybody knew of some finger tongue twister type things. Like, it's really hard to say 'Red Leather Yellow Leather' or 'She Sells Sea Shells By The Sea Shore' quickly, I need some really hard/tricky fingerings that will challenge my fingers. Anyone?

The "crab walk" is a really cool one that I learned recently. It involves only your fretting hand. Warning: you will feel retarded when you try to do this the first time.

Put your pointer and ring fingers on frets 5 and 7 , respectively, of the low E. Put your middle and pinky on frets 6 and 8, respectively, of the A.

Now move your pointer and ring at exactly the same time with exactly the same motion so that they are covering the 5 and 7 fret of the D string. Do the same thing with your middle and pinky, moving them down to the 6 and 8 of the G string.

Keep goin up and down the strings in this manner, and once you have that down, move it up and down the neck. See how fast you can get it.

Having fun yet?

Vai's ten-hour workout is definitely worth doing.

If you have the time.

Nice chromatic runs up and down the neck in different motifs and arrangements

Would it not be considered one-handed tapping rather than hammer-ons though?

^ hammerons from nowhere, left hand tapping, whatever.

It's still just hammerons.

How exactly do you manage that

With economy of motion, left and right hand muting, finger independence and a few years of attempting Shawn Lane legato licks.
