Hi Guy.

Besides Mesa Boogie's "Triple Rectifier", what other brand offers High Gain amps that you can play anything from Classic Rock to Death Metal?

"Bullet For My Valentine" switched from Peavey's 6505+ to Mesa Boogie's "Triple Rectofier". Why is that?
#9
Yes but people often misunderstand the high gain idea.

They often get mixed up with how much gain it has and how the amp's distortion saturates. And also feels sometimes amp lacks gain due too low output humbuckers etc.

Like how a mesa boogie distortion saturates people often think it's so brutal because of the amount of gain, but it's really the way how the tubes break up. (and a big low end often gets confused with heavy gain also) and a 4 x 12 cabinet moves way more air, so it sounds like more gain, which is true, because u move more air so it actually produces more gain in a volume/fullness way (hard to explain)

Metallica used (for the older albums( amps which weren't even fully cranked (gain just around halfway or so). And alot of people think they had super much distortion.

Often, more gain will sound less metal/heavy cause everything gets compressed so hard and dynamics get lost.

Most modern tube heads are hi-gain.

I'd like to add, if u have cheap pickups it feels like u lack gain. Gain ussually gets tested by fret response.

example, if u do legato and the notes are not smooth enough people often add more gain to get it flowing better, where really it's in the fingers and u do not press down hard enough (or u have cheap, less responsive humbuckers).

Another example is people do a palm mute riff and they feel it lacks heavyness which sometimes is occured by either cheap pups or just not enough palm muting. People then apply more gain and the dynamics get lost.

I recorded my playing with various gain and noticed that when I hear it back it's much different then when u play.

Then wouldn't the sky still be blue? What is something's color besides the wavelengths of light that reflect off it and enter our eyes?

BTW, 5150s are nice for some brutal stuff, but I'm not a big fan, then again I play blues mostly so what do I know?

It depends if a sign equating to equals or "=" was present.....

and to Kevin Saale

You could bring lots of contributing factors including humour (you haven't it seems), spelling, punctuation, grammar (which i reduce myself to not bothering with - due to UG standards) and of course, pure science.
I love quoting of other websites....

In which case, the sky would be upside down due to how our brains process the information from our eyes (i.e. switching it around vertically)

So, if you don't mind guys, along with you - i shall now proceed to get a life.

Ta ta.

I quote the "rain on you parade" - followed by a smiley.....

Therefore (and it seems to have made at least one person smile) it didn't really have a point

More over, does your post have a point, other than to be cynical and to criticise someone who provided something more than you, Sir?

No.

Ah well, you know how the internet is, doesn't really translate sarcasm and the such well

But I find it a little silly to call someone cynical when you just said the sky is not blue (without a point) and then back it up with scientific evidence.

for the record some of those amps that horlicks said should be removed actually do high gain quite well.
The Bogner Shiva isn't the most brutal amp, but it definitely has a lot of gain on tap and sounds great.
The Crate Gx130c is pretty much the same amp as the Ampeg Vh-140c, which is highly regarded as one of the best high gain SS heads. Cannibal Corpse recorded their early albums with the Crate. The tone is surely not for everyone though.
