I've been listening to alot of Black Label Society and other stuff from Zakk Wylde lately.
Since I always love knowing what my favourite artists are like in RL i watched about 20 interviews with him on youtube and studied his Wikipedia profile.
He has more than once openly said: "The good lord up above" or something cheesy like that and then kissed the cross around his neck.
How can someone like him really think that if there is a god, he would really approve of his lifestyle?

Is this normal within the heavy metal and bikers scene?

I feel bad looking at porn simply because of the ol' story that a lot of those girls were molested as children, But I've never heard of midgets being molested, so it doesn't matter to me anymore, as that's the only kind of porn I watch.

I have a CD from a random heavy band and in the fold in thingy, it says the acknowledgements and the first one was God. It shocked me seeing as they scream and stuff...

Sepultura has dedicated every one of their albums to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Or so i believe that's how the story goes.

'In this river lord child yeah!'
That's how he sings it live...i don't really have anything to contribute i just thought it was worth pointing out.
Sig space available, give me some praise

Zakk Wylde once said he believes in god because "God gave us beer".

Beliefs do not have to have anything to do with lifestyle/music, etc, unless you want it to.

And a lot of BLS are, more or less, social commentary songs, so I can't see any real conflict.

I like BLS, but I hate religion greatly, so I am glad ZW's beliefs are not taking charge of his songwriting.

anyways ya as i lay dying is rather christian.
and maybe he doesn't believe in the same god as you, maybe his god doesn't approve of his lifestyle, but he doesn't prosecute him for eternity for it.

well i guess he never said that he was a christian, but still. i know people who believe in a god, but they still don't change their lifestyle or try to be religious about it

What do you mean "approve of his lifestyle"?

1. He used to be in a cover band called "Lynrd Skinhead"
2. He's a biker (bikers are mostly assholes)
3. He's drinking all the time
4. He sings about death and alot of aggresive themes
5. He seems to be an asshole, he's always calling all of these other bands shit and ****ers and anybody whos not as metal as him is a dork.
(6. He looks like a viking)

Dave Mustaine mentioned god first and foremost in the thanks section of the album back to the start.

Zakk Wylde is not the epitome of what it is to be 'metal', nor is the application of living a lifestyle. It's music. Listening to it doesn't inherently apply any set of beliefs, lifestyle choices, activities, etc to any person.

Wow. First of all, Christianity does not approve of his lifestyle. He can be a semi-agnostic, meaning he believes in God, but just not religion.

1. We don't know how serious all that was.
2. Stereotype
3. Jesus drank alcohol
4. So, the world is full of death, violence and aggression. Singing about it doesn't mean you are doing it. It just means you are not hiding from it.
5. Assholes can be Christian. Nobody is a Saint... well, except for Saints but that's why God forgives.
6. So does Ghaal and he... bad example. Jesus is depicted as having long hair and beard. I don't see what the problem is.

just know that the pastor from Footloose was as much an insult to christianity as the most outspoken logical athiest

You sound like some suburban douchebag mom that wants to ban rock music.

On every Megadeth album, I quote from Youthanasia, "Special thanks go out first and foremost to God." Dave always states this in the thanks section of all his recordings. And the whole "Satan thing" with metal bands is just portrayed to shock people and look cool, example would be Iron Maiden. Its all for the jokes. I have a Route 666 sticker on my Jackson, just to make people look at it and be like "OMG! Hes a satanist!" In actuality, I don't believe in a god, much less the devil, who was made up by religions just to scare people. I think the metal bands out there, like black metal, who think its all cool, are stupider than the Christian rock bands. Atleast they promote peace and crap. All the black metal bands do is sing about how cool Satan is and paint their faces white and run around in the forest waving axes around. That being said, go listen to some Green Day or Jonas Brothers and GTFO

there's a subgenre of Black Metal, called Un-Black Metal, its christian Black Metal

look up Horde, they're amazing

and Deicide's guitarist is Christian, as is Slayer's singer, and Scott Weiland, and Serj Tankian, and Marilyn Manson was raised Episcopalian, and has never offically denounced God, just insulted the church, almost all the members of Dream Theater, Dave Mustaine, Head, and of course, there's a large amount of Christian Metalcore

It's very possible that Wylde is a "Christian", but very unlikely that he's an Honest-To-God "Christ-follower". A lot of people claim Christianity because they truly believe that Jesus died for all mankind's sins and that through Him we can be forgiven, but view their relationship with God as "fire insurance", protection from sins they're going to commit anyway.

Not to judge his lifestyle, I think he's an incredible guitarist and admire a few of his mentalities, but I think that may be the case with him.

i agree, but there really isn't anything wrong about that lifestyle, in fact, i find them to be better examples of Christianity than the uber-Christ-followers

I'm with you, the idea that all sinners are damned and cursed to Hell seems to be way too popular with "Christians" these days, to the point that we've developed a very unpopular bias against us.

But Zakk Wylde's lifestyle, if he is a Christian, is not terribly exemplary. Christians should try to preach forgiveness for their sins, and strive to live a life that shows thankfulness for it.

But in the way that he's bringing God into the spotlight in some mainstream way, in my opinion he is a better example than those Hellfire-and-Damnation "preachers".
