Ok, i know alot about guitars, but im a noob when it comes to amps. i'm looking for a good tube amp in about a 700-800$ price range, and i play metal, alot of distortion helps, but versatility is still nice, and i have no problem going used.

yah bugera 6262.
But you can also look into the used market and get a 5150 if your afraid a Bugera will blow out in 2 months or so.
also for that kind of money take alook at mesa F-series.

what would be better for metal, a 5150 II, 5150, 6505, or a 6505+

well the 5150 ll and 6505+ are the same, the 5150 and 6505 are the same aswell.
Id personnally get a 5150 combo just cause its the same as the 6505 exactly, and they go cheaper.
I dont know tough if you can find a head for 500 go for it cause youll still have money for the cab, but if not just get the 5150 combo, they always go for around 400-600.
If you want a good versatile amp that still kick ass in metal just as good as the 5150 look at 6262 Bugeras, and line 6 flextones.
Also if you want something that is really bomb Line 6 147HD's go for cheap as well on the web used.
If you got 800$ cold hard cash its best to buy used.
what area do you live in, maybe i can find something on craigslist.
