I'm not really an emo, just thought I would use that to draw you UGers in :P

okay, ive just bought a epiphone les paul standard plus (in tobaccoburst), me and my friends are going to put together an emo/hard rock band. Any pedals that give that hard punchy guitar distortion?

our music is based around heavy sounding chords (not power chords... well not all power chords) and guitar solos.

so ... UGers, opinions?

Still got the spider? In that case, new amp, no point in trying to polish a turd.

Ok, well, there isn't any point in using a distortion pedal with a modeling amp, it will some like dog turds.

i don't think line 6 spider 3 comes in 50 watt.

It doesn't.

And for an emo rock tone, I have a perfect pedal for you. Get... far away from here.

a line 6 amp, pretty much.

It's the kind that has the different amp models and you can switch between the models and they're generally crappy models...

Generally digital amps that replicate or 'model' the sound of another amp (in the case of your spider, very badly)

Douple post FTL.

Modeling amps are like yours, they model the sounds of other amps with digital gizmos and such. Basically it's a computer driving a speaker.

Ok, back to the topic, number one, your spider is almost certainly not gonna be loud enough to gig, keep that in mind.

Second, I don't know how long you've been playing, but once you've developed an ear for tone you'll realize how bad these amps sound (especially when you turn them up).

Third, it's more expensive at first to buy a new amp, but you save money on not having to upgrade all the time Considering the amp is the most important part in your rig, you should spend the most money on it.

Seriously though, I would look at a new amp. I mean your amp, is pretty versatile overall if your gonna keep it try to mess with it's various models more. I've used a distortion with a modelling amp before and it sounded fine but I ended up not evne needing the distortion cause my amp got those same tones.

Also another thing to consider:
Have you used your amp with a band before?
30 watts SS can cut through sometimes but there's no guaranteeing it'll sound good at those volumes.

the spider does not take pedals too well. its like plugging a distortion pedal into a already distorted amp without proper eq. all you'll get is fuzzing and feedback
#17
^Yup, line 6 vetta is a very highly regarded amp, perfect for a working musician in a cover band.

yes. A flextone is a good amp, so is a valvetronics, cube, vypyr... TS - If YOU like your amp that's all that matters. 30 watt SS amps don't usually hold up to EMO drummers. They are so upset and full of angst that they overpower most guitarists in general...

Just a little, it was a tiny bit on topic. Kinda. Yeahhh... didnt feel like making another thread, but a useless emo music thread popped up and I took the chance.

Fair enough, at least you didn't go all emo on me for asking. I like the flextone best (haven't tried a vetta), but the Vypyr, Roland Cube, and Valvetronics are all pretty good. It's a matter of personal taste between them.

TS - Try a Valveking, you can find them on clist for $250.

HIM? Poo on your spider, that'll make it sound like HIM's tone.

Go get a marshall.

Off topic
But I dont know about flextones.

My friend has one.

We tried using it for band practice mic'd up for our other guitarist(when he played guitar, now plays bass) all it was was mushy fuzzy bad.

even unmic'd it sounded shitty.

Although it would be the way its toned.
But for the brief time i spent trying to get something usable(5-10 minutes) i couldn't.

I was very disappointed.

Although he did get the amp for free so i spose it was worth it for him.

And if you were going to get an amp for this style of music.
get a Bugera 333xl.
Seriously awesome, especially for the price.
