yes, you could use it to control a pitch bend


no, anything involving pitch bending usually involves a whole ton of digital signal processing stuff and complex algorithms


I think you can control a a Digitech Whammy over MIDI
building a MIDI controller wouldn't bo too complicated, all you'd need to get started was a photoresistor and a microcontroller board (those Arduino boards are easy to get start with though are probably overkill) and a couple of resistors and such
