i dont have money right now for an interface so im gonna use my computers sound card so i can get some practice with this whole recording thing. to record a guitar do i just plug in a mic and then put up next to my amp? or can i plug in my guitar directly in to the computer??

just plug your mic in and put it next to the amp. Unless you get a 1/4 to 1/8 converter

get a 1/8 to a 1/4 converter, put your guitar into your amp, then your amp out into the adapter into the pc microphone slot
then in audacity choose microhphone in the corner

for some reason the line in doesnt work on mine

alternatively, if you have a pedal, plug into your pedal then pedal line out into pc, using your pc speakers as an amp.
that usually gets a better tone

i tried it in audacity but it wont work i dont know what im doing wrong

yes my guitar is pluged into my amp and my amp is connected to the mic slot but when i press record it doesnt record anything

go in your pc's volume control and make sure the line in volume is up
