Well i am an absolute noob when it comes to theory and i wanted to know...

when you solo, how do you know what scales to play when you ar jamming along with someone/something(ipod, etc.)

You find out which scale the song is in and then use that scale to solo. To do this you need to understand scales (start with the major) and chord construction.

look up major and minor pentatonic scales on the internet for starters.. and then learn how keys are constructed from which chords are played, and use the scale according to the key
