buy an amp.. you need it..

frontman amps are the worst i've ever played on, and expecially 15 watts.

even my marshall MG beats it..

get an amp with all the money plus some of your own money
My Guitars:
Gibson Les Paul Studio
Epiphone AJ
Ibanez Strat Copy

Amps:
Orange Tiny Terror Head
Old beaten up Peavey cab
Marshall MG30DFX

amp, all the way. I'd try to save a little more than that though, if you can

Why dont you buy a modeller.
Like a Roland CUBE, for the money there awesome.
your not ganna get anything worth while if you use half and half for a amp and multi FX.
also check ebay.

Wouldn't go that far! The clean tone isn't too bad on the frontman and it takes effects quite well.

Anyway, change the amp, seriously!

Perhaps a Vox Valvetronix, Roland Cube or peavey Vypr. If your a true tone junkie look for a Harley Benton/epiphone valve junior and then spend the few pounds left on a couple of analogue pedals.

You could get a multi effects pedal for that although the tone may be questionable, but are you sure you'd need one? have you seen how many built in effects the cube has and how many amp models?

Trust me a 15 watt ss amp is not gonna cut the mustard. You need to start saving for something much bigger, there's a guy on here selling a valvetronix ad50vt for around £130ish?

where??

+1 to nightraven, get a new amp.

You can get all these effects, but your tone will be shit without a good amp.

And multi-fx aren't good, get single pedals, after an amp.

where??

hahahahhahha.
there both SS amps, and from my experience owning both amps, the roland cube is the better amp.
It dosent hiss and sqeul like the valvetronix when you bring it up, and tonally its more responsive to the way you play.

how many watts in an amp should i need about?

If you're gonna do gigs, 30 watts tube to get over a drummer and still have a decent clean tone.

Still, you wouldn't be able to get over a drummer well.

I had a 15w Vox tube amp that died so I bought a 15w Vypyr to replace it because of cost. I also needed something with a headphone jack because the Valveking was just too loud for late night playing.

The Vypyr sounds ok, lots of cool sounds, but at the end of the day, I missed my little tube amp!!! The modeling newness wore off quickly.

My .02 cents... Look at the Epi valve Jr. Cheap, takes pedals well, loud enough to be heard but not have the cops called. Get a 1x12 cab. Mod the amp and have fun. If you need to go louder then mic it.
#22
He wouldn't be heard over a drummer with a Valve Jr.

Even if he did, he wouldn't have a clean tone.

What genres dyou play, TS?

I had to step away in the middle of the post and didn't see the one where he was gigging.

so what do you think roland cube 30
im only playing in pubs n clubs
all of the songs i do are with overdrive some with distortion
#25
the brit combo model on the cubes with COSM are very good for overdrive tones punk and blues, and the Rfiers are just bomb for metal or that distorted sound.
I think youll probly need a 60 for gigin.
#26
You'd probably need the 60 watt version to gig well.

Yeah.

I'd still rather get a tube amp, but that's just me.

60watt for giigin are you sure coz wer only in pubs n clubs

Yes, it's the drummer you've got problems with.

Though a 30 watt tube amp would do it.

right so im gonna ask for money towards an amp for crimbo and put my money with it
so ideally here im looking for a roland cube 60
and for my birthday(in may) ill ask for some pedals

oh btw are the pedals with just one effect called stompboxes?
#36
Don't want to come across like a dick but have you invested time in the Bar of Searchness?

If you don't know what you looking for at the moment I would recommend getting something like either...

A Flextone III - plenty of models so you can decide which tone zone you want your band to develop, very decent cleans, and when into a PA will cope with small gigs admirably. ( This is not a Spider. Line 6 do make good amps. Just not the Spider series)

or....

get a Peavey Classic 30/50 or a Blackheart Handsome Devil or a Little Giant, or a Epi Valve Junior, or a Fender Blues Junior, or if upping it a bit, used Traynor, Orange TT, Laney VC/LC, Peavey Ultra/XXCX/JSX, I mean I could go on.

EDIT: You will need a pedal to help get anything upwards of metal genres with the amps listed above! Don't ask which pedal will you!.....

Instead I refer you again to the Searchness Bar.....

^thats great advice but he cant afford either of those used or new.

Once again, the Epi Valve Jr. into the clubs PA. Toss a EQ and OD/dist pedal and play.
#39
Errr........my bad! I dived in with two feet without paying any attention to your budget!!! APOLOGIES

I still say though that you could get a used Flextone for that money, and a Epi VJ + pedal or even a smaller Blackheart + pedal ain't gonna cost you much more than the budget, spesh if you look used.....

Still apologies for jumping down throat !

i rekon ill get around about with my money and families money up to £250
so i want to spend no more than £200 but if i really have to ill spend th other £50]

o yes also with a 15 watt marshall mg i can pretty much hear myslef over the drum kit
