I play guitar in my high school jazz band and I'm looking to get a better amp, but I've never done this before so I don't really know what to look for. It needs to be decently loud seeing how we have about 50 other kids playing. I'd rather buy it used so I can get something that can handle what I need it for. I only want to spend around $200 (for used) seeing how I'll just keep it at my school. Any suggestions?

line 6 flextone ll, go on ebay youll find them for cheap.
i was ganna say roland cube but as your willing to buy used already this would be a better option for you.

What's your old amp? Even used you're not gonna find much for 200 bucks.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

Fender tube combos are very clean. I use a Fender DeVille 410 for my school's jazz band. It's a great amp.

Ok thanks...my old amp is just a cheap Kustom because I didn't really know if I would be doing jazz band or not, and now that I am, I wuld like to have an amp at my school from now on for that purpose. I also found out that my director may be splitting the jazz band in half so I guess that solves part of my volume problem.

What are some of the songs you guys play? I hope it's nothing like how my jazz band is.

They go for 3-450.

Also, they sound best when you use a full hollow, IMO.

Also: save up about 2-300 more if you can. That way you can get a sweet Ampeg.

really. i've seen em for 250-300. but they have unbelievable cleans. Ampeg would do amazingly too

I'd say a Fender combo of some sort. You might be able to find something in the Hot Rod series for around your budget used. Not sure if they would be amazing for jazz, but the cleans are decent. I've always found the Jazz Choruses cleans a little bit sterile. Then again, I play strats so I've never experienced a hollowbody through them.

You should probably mug John Frusciante or Ritchie Blackmore. They're small guys, we could take 'em.

Just look out for that other guy in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Will Farrel. He's a tall mofo, got a long reach.

I have my dad's old '68 Ampeg Gemini, I run my Casino through it.

Its kinda squaky and thin.

But then again its never been re-tubed...EVER.

But its ok, my tubes are supposed to come in in the next week or so.

Blackstar HT-5C
Vox Valvetronix AD30VT-XL

Dunlop DB-01 Crybaby From Hell

its not the 2-band. and yes, I know how to use it.

Besides common sense tells you to re-tube at least once a year.

^^Err, what? Common sense says to retube when the tubes go bad. The tubes that amp came with could probably last till about the end of time. NOS tubes can last a very long time, some preamp tubes are known to last decades.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

The new tubes probably don't even sound as good as the vintage ones.
There seems to be a problem if you can't get a great tone out of a vintage Ampeg

also look into Tech 21 trademarks, the best SS amp for cheap, better than alot of cheap tube amps.

For $200 the best idea would be a used Fender Blues Jr
Framus Cobra
Marshall JCM 900
peavey 5150

Mesa 4x12
