Alright so I'm picking up a used MIM Telecaster I found on Craigslist. It's the arctic white with maple fretboard..yum. So I'm thinking I'll keep all the cosmetic stuff the same. Now, not normally one to be short on ideas, I am. Lets make this a unique ass tele. Or we could just change..the pickups. It's up to you. Let the brainstorm begin.

EDIT: Inb4 Kaoss. Because..no.

be like everyone and relic it and make it look like shit.

seems to be a pretty popular fad these days.

nahh, do some really unique wiring options, like have a split and phase switch and stuff... maybe something wierd onboard? =)

what's the pickup setup on this? There may be room for improvement if you were to rout some more out? maybe make a 4-pickup setup? like... Bridge, midbridge, midneck, neck, and some crazy wiring positions with phases and stuff?

just to be unique haha

It's the standard S-S tele setup. I wouldn't be against routing for a cool enough idea, but I do really hate to sand off this beautiful finish.

To walker: I already have my Kay for slide, and my V for any metal/whatever else. Also I have a build going on a Hendrix Monterey Strat, so really anything is in play here.

2 buckers, recessed TOM, diamondplate pickguard, flat black everything.

The metal-est Tele to ever grace the Earth?

I had always thought of doing this to like... a Grestch Country Gentlemen! People wouldn't expect Cannibal Corpse to play the most senior man guitar in the world .

Maybe a hot rails in the bridge with a series parrallel switch, and then a phase switch for the neck, and possibly a switch to bypass the pots and go straight to the output.

Oh oh I know!

Make the Metelecaster (pronounced mett- ellie - kaster) except then go play totally non metal music. It will totally confuse the hell out of people!

Or, do an incredibly versatile wiring setup, and don't change the looks. 2 humbuckers, coil tapped, kill switches, the works.

Haha..the Metalcaster playing blues. Why does that sound so awesome to me?

And yeah I might be boring and go for the same looks + most versatile thing youve ever seen.

You don't have to do any sanding if you route. I extended the FR cavity on my Kaman GTX33 and it didn't ruin the finish. Just be sure to outline the area to be routed in masking tape to avoid chip-out.

Even with a template on? I guess that would make sense.

blend pot?
no killswitch!! overrated imo.
maybe put the vol/tone on a concentric and make the other one a blend with a push-pull series/parallel switch?
