I have my dad's '68 Ampeg Gemini.

It takes:

3----- 12AX7's

2----- 7591's

1----- 7199 (tremolo/reverb?)

1----- 6CG7 (rectifier?)

The 12ax7's I can get no prob.

Do they still make 7591's? what about the 7199 and the 6CG7?

If so where can I get them? for how much?

Also what are best brands for each tube?

I honestly don't think you should replace the tubes until they're dead since the tubes that are in there are probably much better than anything that's being made nowadays.

if that be true, and I'm sure it is, honest...

but then why do people on here rant at me to re-tube?

they say 'oh the tubes are weak', or 'its just maintenance', or 'you just do', etc.

why would you re-tube on a regular basis (unless they go bad)?

They do go bad, especially new tubes, but back in the day when everything used tubes they were made much better. The tubes in your amp are almost certainly gonna be better because they are old (not old in the sense of used, but old in the send of made in 1968 or whenever) Go back on that site and look what one nos rca 12ax7 costs and you'll know what I mean.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

So through time, we lost some technological knowledge ?

No, we just got lazy and [MASS PRODUCE] things. You just push some buttons on a computer and you get a bunch of tubes for cheap. Back then quality control was 10000x better because quite frankly they sucked at making tubes efficiently so they ensured everything was perfect by hand

just my guess

am i right

Not to mention almost all current production is made in russia and china. Any current US production tubes are extremely expensive as well.
