I posted a couple times in the other thread, and I'm kind of a photography noob, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is the same thing as above, but it was blowing around in the wind a bit.

I really should have been studying instead of taking pictures.

Sorry about that first one skewing the forum a bit.

Thought I'd do some more long exposures, took these about an hour ago.

@Reva have you considered doing tracking shots of the rollercoasters and droppy-thingy?

@micro.cuts love the light trails, out your bedroom window?

@Jallas If you want to replace your 18-55, I was looking at http://www.cameraworld.co.uk/ViewProdDetails.asp?prod_code=24-70%20dx&Prod_name=Sigma+24%2D70mm+f2%2E8+EX+DG+Macro&CAT_CODE=2&SUBCAT_CODE=38

Hmm, need a bit of help. My Canon IXUS v3 has finally died (according to canon-asia.com it's a problem with the CCD) needless to say it will be cheaper to replace it, that and I've wanted a new camera for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages.

My dad originally spent £300 on the old camera (it was brand new and hi-tech at the time xD) so we're probably looking at a budget of £300-£500. He's also very partial to Canon cameras. My dads pretty fussy about picture quality too, I just want something with a manual mode I can play about with.
Can anyone recommend some cameras within that price range?

Hurrah for new thread! The old one was very very cluttered.

minibrowny: Those are amazing shots. I particularly like the first, because of the texture on the sidewalk. The use of banking is also quite nice; all of the different angles complement each other.

A few photos from a trip downtown:

#63
@micro.cuts Thanks! I use a Canon 400D, I was planning on upgrading to the 40D soonish, but I'm gonna stick with this for a bit.

@qov Thanks, all the angles are because my crappy tripod is wonky I love the third one, that little square of light from the door showing the graffiti is brilliant.

I'm not a photographer, myself, but I have plenty of family and friends who are. Here's some of their work.

These pics were taken with a Nikon D300.

My brother's 25th Anniversary Seagull Headstock. These were some of the first shots out of his D300.

A Nemesis bass amp head.

These next two were taken by my friend with a Canon Rebel XTI.

It's some building in Toronto... somewhere, haha.

i love looking at photography, and i need a new hobby. used to take a few pictures here and there back when i had a crappy digital camera. im pretty good in photoshop (i use CS3), but i dont know where to start when it comes to buying cameras. i live in a really historic city and i always see stuff and think "that's be a sick picture" but i dont want to spend over 150 bucks on a camera. =[ ahh thus is life; what im really trying to say is, how did you guys get started in photography? always been interested in it? or did you just invest in a camera one day and say "no turning back i just dished out 400 bucks"?

Then just spend that 150 and get a digital compact. - thats what most ppl have end up doing and it works very well. you ll quickly see how interested in it you are, and as you say, your not left with a camera that cost a load and then doesnt get used.

The quality of most of the current compacts is really nice, makes the 3.2mega pixel compact i learned on seem ancient

I would recommend against getting the cheapest no-name-brand one. look at some of the Canons powershots, though some of them might just be over that 150 price.

but either way getting a compact 1st is definitely the way to go. some of the others should be able to recommend good compacts.

Image hosting & galleries:
http://www.flickr.com - Provides smaller versions of your images that you can post in this thread (medium is best)
http://www.photobucket.com - Can resize your images when uploading
http://www.imageshack.us - Can resize your images when uploading

just wondering, why not tinypic.com? because you don't have to sign up, and you can also resize the images when you upload them. and photobucket takes forever (if it ever works for me).
or is it just not a trustworthy one?

Oops. My bad. I'll just add a pic of two of my own so that I'm not a COMPLETE jackass, haha.

I shot these out of my old Sony DSC-V3. Not a great photographer, but I tried. No editing done at all.

It was a rather dreary day when I took these. I looked over at my Martin sitting on a stand right next to me and thought "wow, that white binding really accents the guitar", so I decided to take a few pics.

Why yes, it's the classic looking down the guitar shot, but I think I got a good angle on this one.

The pics are a bit blurry if you look at them too closely. Had to turn up the iso or else it would have been too dark. Im a complete noob at taking pics, but it's fun.

EDIT: Just saw the pic of Neuschwanstein above. I visited that castle as well a summer or two ago. The inside is indeed rather plain. The count died before it was completed. Apparently, this is the castle that Walt Disney based his castle on.

Think of the children in Africa who would kill for a camera! So they could take myspace pictures instead of having to use webcams! I hope youre ashamed.
