i took some photos of one of my friends today, and i've started to sort through them. here's one i like so far:

and while we were taking pics, a bird shat on her

it hit her head first, then fell on the ground. she wasn't happy at all, i laughed so hard i nearly cried, especially when i realised i'd taken a photo of it occurring

I like the first one, but I would've liked more air at the top. The pose is interesting and I like the contact between you, though.

And on another craprelated note, the last 4 sundays I've been meaning to go out and take pics with my mates have been cancelled because it always rain on sundays (though no other days of the week). It's almost like a sign.

This thread needs more film!
All of these were shot on either my first camera (Nikon N60) or my newest camera (a ~40 year old Pentax Spotmatic).

Beginners should look into starting out on a film SLR! They can be bought for ridiculously cheap off of eBay nowadays..

Anyhow, I have been pretty dissatisfied with my work lately. Here's a couple snaps from a recent roll. I process all of my film in a bathroom in my basement. I haven't edited nor cropped these, because I don't think they are worth editing or cropping:

The top one is kinda dirty because of my scanner. I'm far too lazy to shoop the dust out.
Main gear (For complete list, see profile):
Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain-top
Basswood Telecaster, 2 single-sized HB's, both split.
Epiphone Valve Junior
B-52 AT-412 Cabinet
Oh, and I have a Squier VM Jazz Bass too.

you can either scan the film negatives (there are special film scanners for this), or scan the photos once they've been developed.

So you guys finally made the new thread eh

Sweet

I'm back from India (training workshop) and I made my first diptych thingy too

Is anyone else starting to care less and less about their gear? I didn't even take my SLR with me; took my mum's crummy P&S.

And that's it really. Didn't get to move around a lot as it was part of this training workshop with a tight schedule and the classes ended after dark each night.

You should come visit here sometime

The 5D was too tempting. I wanted a fullframe and the nikon equivalent was like double the price!

Ah too bad, I was hoping you'd travel a bit since india seems so awesome. Like Josef Hoflehner: http://www.josefhoflehner.com/india.html

The entire worlds awesome and the grass is always greener man. Especially the people living in big cities.

And Sweden

Yeah I know what you mean about the 5D. Although it isn't exactly a fair comparison considering the D700 is current gen and is selling at about the same (if not cheaper) price as the 5D did when it came out. It's probably going to be the D90 for me because of a lack of moneyz.

It's true it is always greener, but seriously the rest of the world is much more interesting than sweden
The coasts are boring, the lakes are boring, the cities are boring. There's no substance, hardly anything that stands out.

The D700 is cheaper than the 5D when it first came out, but better. I got my 5D used so it's all cool

Urgh I wish I could buy used, I did find a used 40D body only for £500, I didn't have that sort of cash so it was a no go. Since then not seen one cheap. Same with lenses, I found a f/ 2.4 cheap, 17-70mm seemed perfect. Fucking Sony fit! EVIL!

I have a question about an effect i see used frequently. i dont really know how to describe it, but i have a picture, its not mine though. this is the effect im talking about:

See how its all clear and sharp and crisp? and this is a picture of the clouds that i took with my panasonic lumix dslr:

I want to know how to give it the effect like the first picture. is that done with photoshop, or is there a setting on the camera? or can it only be done with a certain camera, lens, filter? i know its not the flash, because that was done on clouds.

EDIT: Oh, and whats the name of it?

in Photoshop CS2, go to filters > sharpen > sharpen.

if you are more of an advanced user, you can use textures to set on lighten onto the photo and set the opacity lower until it looks good.

you can also mess arround with the brightness / darkness and the contrast of the picture. blurring parts also look good.

you can also use gradient maps and photofilters in photoshop to change to color.

xTrueTillDeathx The colour and contrast from those kinds of skys it normally a mixture of decent lighting and PS.

Your eg is probably not the best for a perfect comparison cause the lighting is completely different, the backlit clouds have a strong clarity and contrast to them.

i used a very slight curve in 'curves' and 2 'selective colours'. i put the black to some minus figures and played with the blue and cyan channels. you can use it twice to get a strong effect, but watch out for how it messes with the image quality.

dragon slaying is not for you.

Well here's some of my stuff.

This one I took 2 years ago from a plane on the way to Italy. I tweaked the contrast and added the black lines but that's it.

This was just a result of poor focus, though i quite like it. If the knee was crisp and well focused I'd love this one

I took this one 3 days after i got my camera i think. (just a compact btw, not one of those lovely big black SLR things). I made it black and white (evidently) and blurred those trees slightly, just for a little more feeling of depth of field.
#156
Guys, im back with a new question - Photoshop CS2, Or Elements 7?

also...is there a generally accepted "limit" on how much editing a photo gets?
Yes, I Am A Lesbian... No, I Don't Do Porn
#157
@Madclowndisease: That last one looks very interesting. Do you have it in a bigger size?

@Beatlemaniac: Photoshop CS2 definetely. There's no limit, unless you're doing specific missions. Parents might not like it if you gave their children a hardcore model retouch for their schoolphoto, for example.
