@Madclowndisease: That last one looks very interesting. Do you have it in a bigger size?

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3143/3020316876_af4af78cf5_b.jpg That's the highest res Flickr will give me, but I have it about three times the size on my comp.

Here's a couple I took out of my window, unedited entirely (except for resizing, I really like wide thin pics for some reason...)

Anyone done any sequencing shots like this http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1005&message=29757018 before? I want to try to do some this season but I'm not really sure how they're done. I'm guessing all manual settings with a tripod and then somehow put together in PS?

Well a tripod is definitely needed. Youd then put the camera on Continuous shooting mode. - If you hold down the shutter it will take photo after photo until you let go. The speed and amount of photos it can take in a row depend on the camera.

If you used a tripod the 'mountain' in that eg will be in the exact same position. you put the 3 or more photos in separate layers in an image in photoshop. you can then erase or mask out some of the mountain in the top layer to reveal the snowboarder in the photo below.

Kensai that last one is brilliant!! and im still waiting for a photo or two..

what'd be a good investment for a beginner photographer?
i have a $150 digital camera of some kind, but after seeing these, i know i need a new one.

it'd be used mostly for nature, and probably black and white?
and it'd be nice if it was under $500...

Sorry

for the software side of it, Autostitch works great. it ll stitch the images together for you. http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html

Everytime you open it just remember to go into options and set 'output size' to 100% and 'JPEG Quality' to 100

For that taking the photo bit, remember to make sure the photos overlap so that the software can figure out where everything goes. 20-30 percent or something like that along the edges is fine.
Its possible to do it handheld instead of on a tripod you just have to get the technique right.

It works well if you pretend your camera is fixed to a pole/tripod or something so you dont move it left or right when your taking the photos. just rotate the camera around that one point. - if you get me

beatlemaniac-93 largest possible is always best. Test it out at home before you go out. cause you ll be nothing but annoyed if you come back and it doesnt want to work properly

def work on your lighting there

it looks too much like it's an artificial light, try to bring let's say a big flash light and light form far away at the cabin and take the shot from in front far away from the flashlight.

I would also work on your composition, in that last picture there's a bunch of chairs stacked up on something on it, might want to clear that up.

filter > sharpen > sharpen is great guys.....

Thanks. I've never even considered the flashligh deal.
And yeah, I can say I never look for stuff to remove from the shot. I should probably get on that.
#182
platinum pro, in your second one I would suggest blurring that light on the top right corner as it takes away most of the focus from the main point of focus. it also looks artificial because it's in front of all those trees.

03 was my favourite one.
It's a bit blurry like, but I liked the way all the photos are kinda dark - it gave it the right mood/feeling.
#186
Jonny92 i like story, its simple but has substance and emotion too.

Technically i would ask why you were using an ISO of 1600? just because youd get sharper and more detailed photos if the ISO wasnt so high which also forces you to use more extreme apertures. or did you want the grain?

04 is my favourite just as a single photo. i also like how the saturation sort of drains away till the end and the b/w 11. Though wondering abit why 05 is b/w, it just seems to stand out a bit the rest around it being colour.

hope you dont think im being to harsh have you handed this in yet? or do you still have time to play around with it?

Did anyone see RED's new cameras? www.red.com
They realeased their hyped cameras today.

What's so cool about it is that you can build your own camera, like it was lego. You got certain parts to build with at different prices. They also introduced a 261 megapixel sensor too that's just... huge.

They're really for shooting video but you can take stills with them too, with a huge dynamic range (10 to 13+ stops) and there are some videos and stills up on the site (although edited and none information provided on ISO, aperture, lens and stuff).

They're pretty pricey, though.

^ I'm mostly excited about the very high dynamic range and ISO, but we've yet to see any proper testshots

It doesn't feel like it's targeting the right audience with the advertising. Might just be me but naming things "epic, mysterium, mysterium-x and mysterism monstros" and labeling everything "extreme" seems like it's for 15-year-olds.

Hey guys.
I'm looking for a program that allows you to make a slide show for your desktop wallpaper, and since you're all into visual imaging, I thought that maybe someone here knows of something that would allow me to do this. We used to be able to do it on the Imac's at school.

I'm running vista.

Thanks.

going crazy with a couple of the brushes and making a grungey dirty scratched up look as the border would look pretty neat
#194
breadstick Ive no idea about that sorry. I think it was vista ultimate that allowed you to set movie files as a desktop background. Im still on XP so you might be able to do something that i cant on vista.

just because it can be done on macs im tempted to say it cant be done on windows
you might be able to get away with it using on of those pc skins programs, that change the whole GUI, but im not sure. eg http://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/

my advice is don't sharpen everything.

Find your focal point, make it your focal point.

slightly blur parts that simply don't matter and make them darker. the burn tool is great for this.
