Try using different input settings, try using Line In, Microphone e.t.c...

Also, check in your sound settings that the microphone thing is checked. Double click the volume icon in your taskbar and do this;
Options>Properties

Click Recording
Then click OK
Make sure the microphone thing is CHECKED.

Done, and still nothing. In all of the pictures online theres a little drop menu to the right of the input volumes, with 'microphone' in it. I can't select anything on mine... does that narrow it down?

Ahh... Yes that does narrow it down.

I had that problem once. I'll try an remember how i got rid of it.

For now, try deleting it, and re-installing it.

Goto Edit > Preferences, the first screen should be Audio I/O. Goto Recording Device, drop down the list, chances are it's defaulted to the Microsoft Sound Mapper rather than your sound card. Try switching it, save it, close Audacity and restart it again.
