hey UG,

I was wondering the techniques yall use to build up finger strength. Do you just hammer-on and pull-off till your fingers fall off? Or do you do things like squeezing a stress ball during school or something along those lines.

Ideas for me to do in school would be cool too.

practise mate.. and strangely enough, getting good at guitar hero helped me to do hammerons and pull offs really quick

practise though mate: because i have small hands i dont have big reach, so i had to use loads of pinky.. and i did that by just loads of practise. and now i'm like the best player with pinky in my school.. i think i am anyway.

My finger strength just gradually built up as I got better at guitar... I never really had to work finger strength on its own.

If you want to get really technical about it..

1. Grab sticks.
2. Bang sticks on drums.

For bending I sometimes switch between gauges t increase my strength for when I go change back. Usually I have 10's on but I'll randomly switch up to 12's if I want to build finger strength.

i have a cool thing called a gripmaster, its kinda like a stress ball but a lot more sophisticated. i'm sure you can find it on google or something. it definitely helped. also practicing and tapping fingers in class helps.

play bass, then when you play guitar you have to watch it. cos you might accidently snap the string's when bending

i wrote out some simple excercises that used hammer on and pull offs with all fingers, and played that through at the start and end of everything i did on guitar
