Yeah I'm kinda new here, I just started using this account... but anyway.

I'm thinking of making a Jackson rr3 style guitar, and am going to cut it myself, do all the wiring etc, but I'm wondering - can anyone out there recommend what kind of wood to build a guitar out of? And where would I buy it?
This project is just going to be for fun, and I'm not planning on making an exact replica, I'm just basing the shape around it. Also, should i buy the neck for it?
I'm aiming for it to be a pure heavy metal guitar, not for much else hehe.

I'd greatly appreciate it if you left some words of wisdom =)

...Oh yeah, one last thing - how much do you reckon it would cost? Thanks!

Do you have the tools needed to build a guitar?

Its going to cost a lot if you dont.

Yeah, got most of them, and if there's anything i don't have, my dad, or my school, would have them. It's just what I'm going to do it on hehe.

talk to your local highschool/cabinet shop to see if they will let you use their tools, i would buy a pre-fab bolt on neck. and you should buy your body wood from me =]

I might just do that actually hehe thanks. Haha I might've bought the wood from you if I lived in the USA =P and plus I'm probably gonna get the wood from where Øttər suggested =P Thanks all the same.

Ottar wasnt recommending a place to get wood, he was showing a description of wood, dont buy your wood from warmoth, its in the US and VERY over priced.

Thank ya sir!

By no means do I suggest purchasing wood from Warmoth.

Get it from a local supplier, or the UG user LP Addict .

I only use warmoth when I'm tricking obnoxious noobs, or for inspiration and build ideas.

Oh damn... Fair enough. How much would be a reasonable price, because as long as it's around £130 or under I don't mind... otherwise I'll have to hang on a bit longer.

130 pounds?!

Christ, I got my stuff from LP Addict for 65 USD! And it is hella nice wood!

I don't know much about the current conversion rate, but you should be able to get it for far less than that.

There are a large number of builders in the UK who frequent this forum, they can help you with wood.

^ He has one piece dood.

I know, I'm amazed too. How can you manage to sell a 15 x 20 x 2 piece of sapele for $65? The man is an alchemist or something.

He sells things for shits and giggles.
