Okay around christmas time im going to be upgrading the humbucker in my strat, and latley i've been thinking about putting an emg 81 in their but is it bad to mix active and passives? i wont be changing the neck and middle single coils. Also, idk if the 81 is right for me, i like playing stuff like paramore, red jumpsuit, 36 crazyfist and lots of random metal riffs.

You can mix active & passives, but it doesn't sound the same as just one or the other.

EMG also have notoriously bad cleans by the way.

just use the neck and middle single coils for cleans

Agreed, I love single coil cleans.

I recommend a Duncan JB though, EMG's wouldn't be my top choice for the bands you listed. Hope this helps!

you'd want a tb-4 or tb-5, since it's a strat you'll want a trembucker.

and check your PM's
