Orange AD30 or Marshall DSL50
1.) Which one sounds better? In terms of a.) Classic Rock? b.) Metal? c.) Amp Versatility?
2.) Which has a better clean channel?
3.) Which is louder? (Don't judge volume by watts.)
4.) What is the best cab for them?
THANKS

The DSL will do metal better than the AD30.

Don't know/care about the cleans, so no help there.

I'm going to go with orange for loudness, though I'm not sure at all.

Probably an Orange PPC4x12 or an Electric Amps 6x12.

Yeah I'm not even really looking for metal sound that much, just thought I'd throw it in there.
And I forgot to mention that I'm kind of looking for a 2x12 cab I guess, cause I really don't feel like carrying around a big 4x12 cab from show to show.

Chino from Deftones uses an Orange AD. Not sure if it's the 30 watt or 140 watt two channel head, but I figured I'd throw that out there. I'm actually looking at getting an AD30HTC since it sounds really nice, and I think running it with my Mesa would be an insanely good tone. Also, i'm not sure if the AD30 you're talking about is the single channel head, or the two channel one.

Oh yeah sorry, I'm talking bout the two channel head; I thought that was the only one you could buy, unless the one channel is called the Rocker 30.

Yeah the Rocker 30 has 2 combined EQ channels, and AD30 has two separate channels.
By the way, does the Marshall DSL100 have a watt ajustment knob? I'm looking more at the 100watt then the 50watt.
Still looking at the AD30 though.

I remember you made a thread about an AC15...but I forget...What kind of classic rock do you play? Name some bands you'd want to sound similar to.

Yeah the AC15; I decided I'm probably just going to save up and get something that will last a while.
Just the typical favorites for classic; Guns'n'roses, AC/DC, Metallica, Led Zeppelin.
Something versatile too.
The AC30 is another option I guess.
So either the:
Marshall DSL100
Orange AD30 (2Channels)
Vox AC30 (no Alnico Blues)

The AC30 doesn't have enough gain for that stuff. I'd cross it off the list.

I would toss a Traynor YCV50 on that list. Can handle up to early Metallica on its own.
These guys have YCV50's:

You can find one for 650 bucks. Best Marshall voiced production line amp under 1000 bucks.

Also, it's of my opinion that like the other JCM2000 series amps, the DSL100 doesn't do classic rock all that well.

And for what you play, the Orange Rocker 30 would be a better choice than the AD30. The AD30 doesn't have enough gain for any of those bands you named, except for maybe AC/DC. Even then, the Rocker 30 does AC/DC better.
