What would be the minimum wattage amp I would need for a small gig of arount 50 people? I'm looking to get a new amp this christmas to replace my shtty practise amp (yes I have looked at the FAQ). I'm looking for an amp with as much tonal control and any extra effects.

Any suggestions?

I gig with 180W @ 8ohms to about 50people and no PA support. It gets the job done well enough for everyone to hear.

Depends on the size of the venue, larger space to fill = more wattage needed.

I think you need to stop caring what people think about it. I stayed home all day today and masturbated like 5 times. Fucking blast.

I don't hate on Ibanez, they aren't the best, but they aren't bad either.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

It's a bad time to buy from thomann with the euro being so strong against the pound.

Economy sucks at the moment, your best bet is to go either used, or in-store. Hopefully you'll find a decent deal if the prices haven't all been hiked up.

your not getting a good gigging size amp with that budget, you will need around 150+ watts for small gigs like that assuming small gig= small venue

So 65w with a house PA system wont be enough for a room roughly 10 x 20 metres? Thats thesize I'm thinking of.

If you have a PA backing you up then think of your amp as your own personal monitor. So long as you can hear it, you'll be fine.

It doesn't work by the size it's not as simple as that.
Every room is different; you may get away with 65 watts one night but it's a safe bet at the next venue you won't.
That is why you need as many watts as possible; as you have been advised get the head and cab for another £40, a 2x10 combo wont come near that for sound output.
